Minnesota native and Minnesota RTC member Hayden Zillmer (Minneapolis, Minn. – Minnesota Storm) was named to the United States roster for the 2018 Freestyle World Cup at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on April 7-8, as announced by USA Wrestling on Monday.
The World Cup is an annual international dual meet championship that pits the best eight men’s freestyle wrestling teams in the world. Joining Team USA will be Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Japan, Cuba, and Kazakhstan.
Each country will wrestle three dual meets over the course of Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Placement matches will begin at 12:30 p.m. central time with the gold medal match at 4 p.m.
With each team allowed two team members at each weight class, Zillmer was added to the roster at 92 kilograms (202.5 pounds) joining former Missouri wrestler J’den Cox of the Titan Mercury and Missouri WF.
Zillmer was an All-American for North Dakota State University in 2015. Zillmer has a long history of accomplishments that include the following: third place finish at the 2017 U.S. World Team Trials in freestyle, second in the U.S. World Team Trials in Greco-Roman in 2017, third in U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Greco-Roman in 2016 and was a two-time University Nationals champion in 2013 and 2015.
Joining Zillmer and Team USA coaching contingent will be Gopher Assistant Coach, and Minnesota Storm Coach, Dustin Schlatter. Schlatter is a former US Freestyle world team member and Pan American champion; Schlatter helped lead the 2017 US Junior team to World Gold in Finland in August as well as coaching the U23 World Team that that competed in Poland in November.

Ticket opportunities for the World Cup include a Gold all-session package ($225), a Black all-session package ($150), and standard all-session tickets ($75/$50). Tickets are now available on the University of Iowa Athletics website.
