The Big Takeaway: The day after being in the Women’s Championship match at Extreme Rules, Natty was back plugging away against lesser talent on this show, while Zack Ryder beat Viktor in the main event.
Natalya beat Summer Rae (4:50)
Philips and Saxton put over Natalya’s submission match from Extreme Rules and this match is built around Natalya trying to lock in the dangerous Sharpshooter.
They start up with a headlock takedown by Natalya followed by a quick roll up attempt for two. She goes back to a side headlock and then shoulder barges Rae to the mat and postures to the crowd. Rae uses the ropes to get the ref to give her a breather but then Rae’s kick attempt is caught by Natty and Summer prays for mercy. Natalya throws her down face first and the after a basement drop kick, teases the sharpshooter.
Natalya hits a missile drop kick on Rae who has rolled outside, but when she rolls her back in, Rae is able to take over with stomps. Natalya tries a small package, but Rae kicks out at two. Rae then stomps Natty down more and puts on the Indian Deathlock. Natalya reverses but Rae gets to the ropes.
Rae comes back with a clothesline and then works over Natalya’s left leg, going back to the Indian Deathlock. Rae even mounts Natalya, sitting on her and open hand chopping her chest. But Natalya has enough and reverses the hold and puts on the Sharpshooter for the win.
Zack Ryder beat Viktor (8:40)
I have probably missed this on Main Event or possibly SmackDown but while Konnor is serving his suspension, they have given Viktor a new moniker – the ‘demonic’ Viktor – and new face-paint. Its kind of a poor man’s Darth Maul. He is the far stronger of the two in The Ascension as far as in ring work goes, but he doesn’t have the charisma to pull off this kind of gimmick.
They lock up and the ref immediately breaks them at the ropes. Ryder shoulder barges Viktor to the mat and then out of the whip hits him with an inverted atomic drop, followed by a very quick running snapmare for a two count. Ryder fires up and sets up for the Broski Boot but Viktor rolls outside. Ryder baseball slides him through the ropes but is then posted when he ventures outside. We head to a break.
Viktor is in control as we return: after hitting a European uppercut for two, he puts on a chin lock. Ryder charges in a high knee and Viktor punishes him with a double axe handle to the back. Viktor hits a sweet flying, rolling uppercut on Ryder but he is able to kick out at two.
Viktor’s suplex attempt is countered into a neckbreaker by Ryder who now gets the heat. He again tries for the Broski Boot but is caught with a knee. Viktor covers him for two. This time, Ryder catches him with a drop toehold into the turnbuckle and is able to hit the Broski Boot. Ryder goes up top and hits the Elbro Drop for the win.
