A match to decide WWE Champion Bobby Lashley’s challenger for Hell in a Cell is set for next week’s episode of Raw.
WWE has announced that Drew McIntyre will face Kofi Kingston in a number one contender’s match on Raw next Monday. The winner will challenge for Lashley’s WWE Championship at Hell in a Cell on Sunday, June 20.
McIntyre and Kingston’s number one contender’s match originally took place on Raw tonight, but it ended without a decisive finish when Lashley and MVP attacked McIntyre and Kingston at the same time. Kingston had hit a trust fall dive to the outside on McIntyre near the end of the match. The dive knocked McIntyre into Lashley, which led to Lashley and MVP’s interference.
Xavier Woods saved Kingston from MVP’s attack following tonight’s number one contender’s match. After Lashley dropped Woods with a clothesline, Kingston hit Trouble In Paradise on Lashley and McIntyre gave Lashley a Claymore.
In the main event of last week’s Raw, Kingston defeated Lashley in a non-title match after McIntyre hit Lashley with MVP’s cane. McIntyre and Kingston interrupting Lashley during tonight’s opening segment set up the initial McIntyre vs. Kingston number one contender’s match being made. Their rematch was announced for next week’s Raw after McIntyre and Kingston both went to WWE authority figure Adam Pearce’s office and wanted a solution after the way tonight’s match ended.
Pearce told Lashley and MVP that if either of them interferes or even comes to ringside during McIntyre vs. Kingston next week, Lashley will be suspended without pay for 90 days.
Lashley retained the WWE Championship by defeating Braun Strowman and McIntyre in a triple threat match at WrestleMania Backlash earlier this month. Lashley pinned Strowman to win that match. At WrestleMania 37 last month, Lashley defeated McIntyre to retain the WWE Championship.
