No. 17 Vikings look to expand win streak hosting No. 10 Peacocks on Thursday

No. 17 Augustana wrestling (17-4, 6-0 NSIC) returns to action Thursday, Feb. 12 hosting No. 10 Upper Iowa to continue Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition. The dual is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the Elmen Center.

The Vikings were last in action this past weekend traveling to Minot, N.D. to wrestle against Minot State winning, 38-9, which was propelled by eight bout victories, including three pins on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Augustana then traveled to Bismarck, N.D. on Sunday, Feb. 8 to take on U-Mary. The Vikings dominated with a 40-6 win taking nine of the 10 bouts against the Marauders.

Augustana will close out regular season on Friday, Feb. 20 hosting No. 2 St. Cloud State in the Elmen Center with a start time of 7 p.m.

The Huskies are currently ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA Division II wrestling rankings, according to the poll released Wednesday, Jan. 28 by the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.

Scouting the Competition – Upper Iowa

  • Upper Iowa enters the dual on Thursday with an 11-2 record and checks in at the No. 10 spot in the NCAA Division II Wrestling rankings.
  • In NSIC duals, the Peacocks and Vikings lead the Conference with a 6-0 record. No. 2 St. Cloud State checks in at third with a 5-0 record in the conference.
  • Four Peacocks are individually ranked in the latest NCAA Division II Wrestling rankings.
  • Three of UIU wrestlers own the No. 6 ranking in their weight class.
  • 157-pounder Jordan Rinken owns a 26-7 mark, Blake Sorensen (184 pounds) sports a 22-5 mark, while Logan Hopp (285 pounds) has a 25-4 record.
  • Colbey Vance is ranked No. 8 at 165 pounds with a 22-12 record.
  • Series: Augustana trails 1-7 in the all-time series with the Peacocks, with the first meeting in 2008.
  • Augustana’s lone win came in 2011 with a 29-8 victory in Sioux Falls.
  • On the road, the Vikings are 0-4 against the Peacocks losing a pair of bouts by one point.
  • In conference duals, the Vikings are 1-5 since joining the NSIC for the 2008-09 season.
  • Upper Iowa has won the last three meetings, including last years 24-13 win in Fayette, Iowa.
