Modena and Trento are The finalists of Coppa Italia 2015

This weekend in Italy there are no Super Lega games. Instead, four teams are fighting in Bologna for the Italian Cup. Quarterfinals of the competition took place only three days ago and to Bologna arrived top four italian teams. Last year winner, Copra Elior Piacenza didn’t make it to the final tournament, losing against Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino 2:3 in quarterfinal.

The most experienced team in Final Four was definitely Modena Volley with 10 victories in the history. Second on the list is Lube Treia, with four victories in the competition. Although the last time they took the Cup home was in 2009 when the Final Four took place in Forli. Third in the ranking of the most Cup winner among the semi finalists is Trento with three victories. Perugia played in the competition only three times, once making it to the final but losing against Copra Piacenza in 2014.

 

In the first semifinal in PallaDozza supporters could see Energy T.I Diatec Trentino playing against Sir Safety Perugia. The game was not only full of emotions but also with discussions with the referees. The most important one ended with a red card for Trentino’s head coach Stoychev and gave Perugia victory in the third set. Both teams were playing great volleyball but the best player of italian league, the Serbian Aleksandar Atanasijevic, came to the point where his power was gone. Serbian opposite completely turned off in the fifth set and let Trentino eliminate his powerful attacks.

The second seminal between teams from Modena and Treia was considered as a one of the matches where any result was possible. In the history of Coppa Italia Treia and Modena played 11 games against each other with 6 victories of the Giuliani’s team and 5 of Lorenzetti’s one. More concentration was on Modena side, even after losing the third set 12:25 they came back and played amazing two sets, completely destroying Treia in the tiebreak.

The final between Volley Modena and Energy Diatec Trentino will be played on Sunday 11 January at 5pm local time.
