James Ellsworth Returns to WWE, Helps Carmella Retain Her Title

All of the rumors were true after all! During the Money in the Bank pay-per-view this past weekend, none other than former WWE Superstar James Ellsworth made his return. Rumors and reports claiming that Ellsworth’s return to the company was imminent had been circulating all week long, but the unlikely WWE star is now back on the Smackdown roster. Picking up where he last left off, Ellsworth returned to help Carmella win her match against Asuka during the recent Money in the Bank event, which also allowed Carmella to retain the Smackdown Women’s Championship in the process. Get ready to see James Ellsworth by Carmella’s side on WWE programming once again going forward.

James Ellsworth’s sudden return to WWE comes right after he claimed that he was scheduled to compete in China over the weekend instead. However, that same promotion later claimed that Ellsworth would no longer be competing during that show. This does not appear to be a one-time appearance from Ellsworth, as indicated by a short interview on WWE’s YouTube channel that was uploaded after he made his return. He did not much too much to say, but it definitely looks like he and Carmella have put aside some of the differences that they once had and will now be working together again. This will officially mark Ellsworth’s second official stint with the company.

It looked like Ellsworth’s time in WWE had come to an end for good when he was released from the company late last year. However, Ellsworth was reportedly well-liked by several of his peers, and the decision to bring him back to the company was made after several creative pitches to have him return were made in the weeks leading up to Money in the Bank. Ellsworth had been keeping himself busy by wrestling in intergender matches on the independent wrestling circuit, but he will now likely be settling back into the managerial role that he once had in the company. With Ellsworth back and with Carmella still going strong as the Smackdown Women’s Champion, it will be interesting to see what impact this has on the Smackdown women’s division.
